Outdoor stone firepit area – Glenbervie, Whangarei

Outdoor stone firepit with stone columns.

Dickson road, Glenbervie.

Using local Northland schist, we were asked to be involved in creating an outdoor area nestled on the side of a steep bank to the back of Vladmir & Robyn’s tranquil Glenbervie house. Working alongside local builder – John Currie, we were able to create this hidden away gem where both Vlad & Robyn can enjoy a glass of red wine while the steaks cook on the stone firepit.

With the project being on the side of a steep bank, the foundations for the stonework had to be designed by an engineer & architect. once built by John, we could start laying the local Northland stone. Using a hammer & chisel we carefully dressed each stone to fit alongside the next, black oxide was added into our mortar used to bond the stone to the foundation & block work to create a solid structure that will stand the test of time.

The Northland schist blended into Johns expertly crafted Quila timber decking sits comfortably into the bush making the stone firepit very inviting on a cold winter’s night!
